Client Context: Mariposas Sin Fronteras is a Tucson-based nonprofit led by transgender and LGBTIQ+ immigrant communities. The organization operates with a non-hierarchical leadership model that values collective care, mutual accountability, and shared decision-making. Committed to defending trans and queer immigrants against detention and deportation, Mariposas fosters community care and advances Indigenous trans visions of dignity, safety, and self-determination.


Project Overview: Flotte Consulting LLC designed and facilitated a 3-day in-person intensive training for program co-coordinator Joselin Méndez at Casa Mariposas. The training combined digital skill-building with leadership development rooted in Indigenous and grassroots frameworks. The goal was to strengthen organizational capacity while centering cultural values of liberation, mutual aid, and cross-border solidarity.​

Core Objectives: 

  • Build fluency in digital tools (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office).

  • Strengthen communication and email professionalism for nonprofit contexts.

  • Improve digital organization, scheduling, and time management systems.

  • Connect administrative and operational leadership with Indigenous-centered approaches to organizing.

30 Acres: Marfa Grasslands
Native Grasslands Interpretation & Advisory

 

Client Context: The JUDD Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving Donald Judd's legacy of art, architecture, and landscapes in Marfa, Texas, spearheaded a 30-acre native grasslands restoration project. The initiative focuses on conserving fragile grassland ecosystems, creating public green spaces, and fostering educational and recreational opportunities for visitors. The project emphasizes sustainability, cultural preservation, and community engagement. BBCA provided support on environmental and local conservation perspectives.


Project Overview: Flotte Consulting advised developing interpretive signage for the site, integrating ecological, cultural, and user-experience perspectives. Our work ensured that signage provided accurate, engaging context on native grasses and the artistic uses of bird blinds, while enhancing accessibility and overall visitor experience.

 

Core Objectives

  • Provide detailed ecological context on native grasses and grassland restoration practices.

  • Highlight cultural and functional uses of bird blinds within interpretive content.

  • Enhance signage accessibility, usability, and visitor engagement.

  • Support project management, stakeholder coordination, and outdoor use planning.

Preserving Heritage Through Collaborative Design
Barrio de los Lipanes Cemetery – Cultural, Historic, and Architectural Advisory

Client (s): Barrio de los Lipanes Cemetery Committee, Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas, City of Presidio, Presidio County, etc. 

Service Date: January-November 2023

Location:  Presidio, Texas 

Project Overview: Flotte Consulting led an architectural and preservation project on the landmark at the Barrio de los Lipanes Cemetery mound. The work encompassed the full project lifecycle, including identifying and securing collaboration with an architectural firm, coordinating on-site efforts, drafting and editing interpretive materials, and managing the integration of historical and cultural data into design and construction decisions. Community feedback was central to ensuring project outcomes reflected cultural priorities and values.


Core Objectives

  • Conduct extensive archival research and historical analysis to ensure accuracy and cultural integrity.

  • Gather and integrate community feedback to guide project decisions and design approaches.

  • Draft, edit, and review interpretive content and project documentation.

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams, including architects, contractors, and community stakeholders.

  • Manage project operations, timelines, and resources to deliver outcomes under budget constraints.

  • Provide ongoing cultural and preservation advising to align construction with community values.


Scope of Work 

  • Community Engagement: Collected and incorporated feedback from Lipan Apache community members to align the project with cultural and historic priorities.

  • Research & Documentation: Conducted archival research, curated historical data, and ensured its accurate integration into design and construction planning.

  • Advising & Coordination: Delivered cultural, preservation, and operational guidance to architects, contractors, and stakeholders throughout the project.

  • Drafting & Editing: Developed, reviewed, and refined interpretive and project materials for clarity, accuracy, and cultural sensitivity.

  • Project Management: Oversaw timelines, resources, and budgets, coordinating on-site operations and ensuring efficient workflow.

  • Stakeholder Alignment: Facilitated communication across architects, contractors, and the community to maintain shared vision and consensus.

  • Implementation Oversight: Advised on integrating historical and cultural data into construction, ensuring compliance with preservation standards and operational protocols.


Impact
The project strengthened Flotte Consulting’s expertise in research-driven advisory, community-centered project planning, and interdisciplinary coordination. By integrating rigorous research, stakeholder engagement, and operational oversight, the project ensured that the architectural intervention honored historical and cultural significance while reflecting community priorities, fostering transparency, and creating a space of long-term value and respect.
